31 Mar When Life Throws You Lemons
By Cindy Harley
In our last article, Embracing Multiple Perspectives in Your Spiritual Journey, we talked about our perception and how what we see might not be the absolute truth.
What if our perceptions or beliefs are holding us back from something truly amazing? And what if we have an innate system that can help show us when we might be out of alignment?
Feeling Life’s Lemons as Blocked Chakra Energies
My friend, The Potion Lady Jamila Jamie released the following image on Facebook:
This sparked a discussion on what living your life softly and with ease means. Growing up, I was taught that working hard leads to success, and achievement is something you can touch, feel, and see. I can still hear adults saying, “Pull yourself up by your bootstraps.” This idea doesn’t necessarily fit with the new philosophy of living softly and not pushing.
I am trying to embody this new philosophy of living softly and with ease and joy. But it’s hard. If I am not working hard, am I just being lazy? Missing my deadline for this blog post didn’t help to keep that way of thinking at bay. I felt I was letting down Nerissa, Birchlight Energy, and myself. I wasn’t doing my “job” or meeting my own expectations. I pride myself on meeting deadlines. Have you heard of “the early bird gets the worm?” If I’m not early or at least on time, am I really being lazy?
This dichotomy showed up as tension in my lower back and that is often associated with the Root Chakra. The Root Chakra will often hold our feelings of safety and security. It is our base. If I was really paying attention to what my body was telling me, I would realize and acknowledge that I wasn’t feeling safe in trusting that life could be soft and joyful. The energy wasn’t flowing correctly through my Root Chakra.
And the Universe in its awe-inspiring wisdom decided to give me another real-life example. As I was writing this post, I was playing with our new kittens. I could feel the peace and love in my Heart Chakra.
My husband was fixing an issue we had with our toilet. (Ok, the Universe obviously has a sense of humor—toilet problems. Can the sign be any more concrete?) At one point he came out of the bathroom and said, “I need more towels.” Our toilet had sprung a leak due to faulty piping. And to make matters worse, he couldn’t turn the water off to the toilet, so our bathroom was flooding. And we didn’t have enough towels to soak up the water. We called a plumber, and, thankfully, they were able to get to our house fast.
I’m going to stick with the live life with ease, but there are still some issues I’m not seeing. The plumber couldn’t turn the water off to the house from the outside. He eventually found a different shut-off valve and was able to stop the flooding of our bathroom. Even our plumbing wasn’t correctly moving—another sign.
Energy Flow and Living Your Life Softly and With Ease
How does this relate to energy flow and living a life softly? Good question. If we do not get our lessons from our own body, the Divine or our Spirit Team will have to get a little more obvious. Though I can laugh at my Spirit Team’s sense of humor now, I wasn’t laughing then. Obviously, I was being a little dense and had to have a more concrete example.
Flooding and out of control… I was jerked away from my feelings of peace and love and being centered in my Heart Chakra (kitten love) to feelings of fear. I could again feel my lower back start to go out (Root Chakra being out of balance).
All things ended up working out. It didn’t cost us an arm and leg to have the plumber fix the issue. The bathroom is now drying out. All my towels will be clean. And I’m finishing this blog post. But why do I keep bringing up the word Chakra?
What Are Chakras?
If you are unfamiliar with Chakras, one way to think of them is as energy portals or hubs. The word Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning “wheel.” Here on Birchlight Energy, we have meditations for working with some of your Chakras. I would recommend the 30 Minute Angel Attunement.
Many spiritual disciplines have some teaching on Chakras. As mentioned, Chakras were first mentioned in the Vedas (ancient and sacred Hindu scriptures). Chakras are energy portals that have connections to your physical body and your emotions. You will often hear the word Chakra in a yoga practice or energy healing, such as Birchlight Energy healing sessions.
Let’s circle back to why I felt the tension in my lower back and how it relates to the Root Chakra. The Root Chakra is associated with the base of the spine. It is the Chakra that resonates with groundedness and safety. If instead of living my life softly I’m stressing out about obtaining success, fears might come up. And they did. Fears that I may have kept pushing down and not acknowledging, such as feeling uncertain about being able to keep up with our cute little kitties. But I pushed those fears aside. I mean, being in a kitten puddle of fun and calming purrs brings ease and comfort.
So my Spirit Team brought unease and safety back to the forefront of my awareness. And how did I handle it? Well, I called the plumber, and it didn’t take long to fix—but it did bring Root Center Energy back to my mind, and that was one of the energy Chakras I wanted to focus on in this article.
How to Clear Root Chakra Energy Blocks
If you don’t want your Spirit Team to have to make things quite so obvious, you can focus on your Root Chakra in a regular yoga practice, energy healing sessions, and meditation. Envision the color red, which is associated with the Root Chakra. Try incorporating a red stone into your practice—I happened to have red jasper. Then breathe and focus your attention on grounding and being safe. Install a new belief, such as, “I can relax and enjoy myself in the new energy of softness and space,” or “Joy and happiness are safe.”
I also used EFT (emotional freedom technique) to help release the fears or emotional intensity around my need to perform—my need to go out there and be successful.
Here’s one of the set-up statements I used: “Even though in the past I have felt that I had to work hard and strive for success, I now choose to allow my life to unfold gently and know that I am safe.”

All seven major Chakras are here to help us return to our own energy and live life in the way that brings us joy and peace. We will be exploring more about the chakras in the next few blog posts.
As a beautiful spiritual song states, “Let There Be Peace on Earth.” Enjoy The Boys’ Choir of Harlem singing the song here.
Allow peace and tranquility to return to you. Let peace begin within you.
May you lead with your heart and feel the love of all.
Blessings!
