28 Feb Carry Your Melody—Believe in Yourself
By Cindy Harley
Hello Fellow Musicians of the World,
As I was contemplating what I wanted to share for this blog post, I went looking for a song. I don’t know about you, but when I hear a song that moves me, it can light up my life. The word that has been coming into my awareness has been “Believe.” So I went on a hunt for a song, and although it is from a Christmas movie, Polar Express, the song that lights up my heart strings is “Believe” by Josh Groban.
First, it brings to mind watching the movie with my child. And the chorus just rings so true:
Believe in what your heart is saying
Hear the melody that’s playing
There’s no time to waste
There’s so much to celebrate
Believe in what you feel inside
And give your dreams the wings to fly
You have everything you need
If you just believe
Value Yourself, Believe In Your Song
We have to believe in what our own heart is telling us. Sometimes our heart whispers to us very quietly. Sometimes you can feel your heart’s joy when you watch a movie or read a book or see your young children playing.

We each have our own melody that is our life’s symphony. Each of us is so completely unique. I love the movie August Rush; August is a young boy who was put in child services as a baby and grew up wanting to find his family. Along the way, August and those around him learn that he has a special gift: he is able to listen to music and the sounds around him and translate them into a symphony of sound that has a profound emotional effect on people.
When you walk outside, do you hear the symphony of nature? Does the wind whisper to you? Does the birdsong and the rhythm of the passing traffic bring melody to your ears or is it just noise?
Sometimes, when I am trying to figure out what I want to write about or do for the day, I feel like all I hear is the teacher in the Charlie Brown cartoons: “Wah, wah, wahwahwah.” If you’re not familiar with what I’m talking about, here is a clip that someone made of the sound.
So when I’m in a rut—not believing in myself and the value of my own song—I might take a walk outside to get out of my head. But honestly, I might just end up watching videos that put me in a better mood, especially scenes from musicals. (Guilty pleasure revealed!)
Believe in yourself. “Believe in what you feel inside and give your dreams the wings to fly…”
That is one of the hardest things we will do: take the time to value ourselves and to believe in our own song and what we feel inside.
What Are Five Things Making You Happy Right Now?
One way you can help yourself do this is to write down or notice five things that are making you happy right now. Remember, this is a single point in time, and what makes you happy can and probably will change from day to day and year to year. I follow Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project book (among other inspiring books). In her weekly email, she always shares five things that are making her happy right now.
I’m feeling inspired by this today, and I thought I would share the five things that are making me happy right now:
Number 1: My Kittens
My kittens are just over a year old now. They are so cuddly and sweet, even though they are getting their catitude on right now. It is fun to see them play and explore. And who doesn’t love to hear a cat purr.

Number 2: Nature Outside of My Window
We live on a pond in Florida. I usually see turkeys running wild. Sometimes they run and look like raptors. Sometimes they stop at our picture window and look in. My husband and I always look for the deer that roam free in our neighborhood. Now, you might be shaking your head and saying, “I see those animals all the time,” but I live in Orlando, a major city. So what a miracle that there are pockets of nature where the wild things can still roam.
Number 3: Maria Broom
As I scrolled through Facebook, I started following Maria Broom. She always shares such uplifting and empowering material. And she isn’t afraid to show herself dancing. What caught my interest this week was the video Maria shared of Taiko drumming and swing dancing.
Number 4: Crystals
This week I have been sorting through my crystals. And this Malacholla (Malachite and Chrysocolla) caught my eye. I love how it is heart-shaped and heart-healing.

Number 5: Dr. Wayne Dyer’s Book The Power of Intention
I love Wayne Dyer. He had wonderful PBS specials where he would share wisdom and support the PBS network. In the book, Dr. Dyer describes how we live in the Field of Intention. I have heard it called the Quantum Field, and I often call it the Field of Possibility. Even just in the first couple of chapters, he mentions a way to view the world outside of ourselves and cultivate the Field of Intention. He mentions the Seven Faces of Intention: Creativity, Kindness, Love, Beauty, Expansion, Unlimited Abundance, and Receptivity. (I feel another blog post coming up on these faces).
You should take a moment and think about five things that are making you happy right now, this moment. Honor them by writing them down. Allow yourself to be open to new things that make you happy in the moment (or for a lifetime).
Listen To Your Own Melody And Open The Door To Its Possibilities

Let’s bring it back around to listening to your own melody. We each are part of the Symphony of Life. We can tune ourselves and allow our song to be heard. We don’t have to sing to someone else’s tune—that would leave an emptiness in the Universal Song of our special frequency or melody.
We can learn to find our dream, open the door, and allow our music to flow out into the Universe and our world. We can cultivate our Center and “tune our musical expression.”
Birchlight Energy offers a live guided meditation led by Nerissa Solovitz to align your bodies or “retune” your frequency twice a month. Her main healing modalities are Transpersonal Healing and Divine Conduit. You may sign up for a session here. I go to experience the retuning of my bodies and Chakras to a more aligned energy.
Currently, Birchlight Energy has one featured healer who offers one-on-one sessions: Andréa Watson. Her main healing modality is Inspirational Intuitive Reiki. In these sessions, Andréa tunes into what you may need to bring your body, mind, and soul into alignment with your higher purpose and your individual frequency or note.
Take a moment to listen to a Birchlight Energy Meditation Musing, “Just Be”:
Remember: you are worthy and your part of the Symphony of Life needs to be heard. Take a leap and open the door.
Blessings!
